The trailer introduces 17-year-old Asha, the powerful King Magnifico, Asha’s pet goat Valentino, and Star, a celestial ball of boundless energy that Asha’s wish calls down from the sky. Dorothy Ann Blank was a bit of an oddity in the story department as she was one of the only people who couldn’t actually draw or sketch. She was, however, an extremely talented writer who wrote all the title cards for Snow White and was instrumental in paring down the story prose to communicate the storyline perfectly and succinctly. Because of this, she is one of only two women credited in the film despite there being many women who worked on the project (mostly in the ink and paint department). It wasn’t a perfect process… often this technology would lessen the quality of the drawings, which is why the inkers time were still involved in the finishing work. The xeroxed copies were made using an omega 8x10 enlarger as a camera, and they coated old aluminum inking boards with xerox material to create the copies. This process was especially helpful in enlarging and reducing the dragon as needed. While Marc Davis was the main animator of Maleficent as a person, the dragon was mostly animated by Ken Anderson. It was Ken who brought Walt the news that they would save over half the cost of producing films if they embraced this technology and eliminated the ink and paint department.
